The Secretary of Commerce recently announced the appointment of five Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (Council) members. Billy Broussard was appointed for his second term and Johnathan “JD” Dugas was appointed for his third term, both hail from Louisiana. Juan “John” Sanchez, Troy Frady, and Jason Osborne are all appointed for their first term on the Council. Appointees will begin their three-year terms on August 11, 2024.
Juan “John” Sanchez previously served on the Gulf Council from 2012 – 2021 and on the South Atlantic Council from 1997 – 2000. He is the former Executive Director of the Monroe County Commercial Fishermen’s Association and is an avid recreational fisherman.
Captain Troy Frady runs a federally permitted charter vessel out of Orange Beach, Alabama. He has been an active participant in the Council system serving on various Advisory Panels thought out the years. Captain Frady sits on the Board of Directors for the Alabama Charter Fishing Association and has volunteered on the Marine Resource Education Program’s Steering Committee for many years.
Jason Osborne serves on the Mississippi Advisory Commission on Marine Resources and has a long history of legislative work in federal fisheries management. He worked on the 1996 reauthorization of the Magnuson-Stevens Act and served as a consultant to the Center for Sportfishing Policy. Mr. Osborne has also worked with the fishing industry in the Western Pacific.
