The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is seeking applicants for its Scientific and Statistical Committees (SSCs). Current members must reapply to be considered for future membership.
The Council has a standing and special Scientific and Statistical Committees comprised of individuals who have expertise in statistics, fishery biology, marine ecology, economics, sociology, anthropology, or other special sciences as they apply to fisheries management. Members provide independent scientific advice to the Council. SSC members are appointed by the Council and serve a 3-year term. Members are reimbursed for approved travel expenses and receive a daily stipend for their work.
The Council is recruiting for the following SSC’s:
- Standing
- Special Coral
- Special Mackerel
- Special Red Drum
- Special Shrimp
- Special Spiny Lobster
The Standing SSC will consist of no more than 21 members. It will include 8 stock assessment or quantitative biologists / ecologists and the remaining 13 appointees shall include up to 4 economists and up to 4 anthropologists / social scientists, and 5 other scientists.
Each Special SSC will consist of 3 members and none of those three shall be a member of the Standing SSC or another Special SSC.
